What’s new
Auto-translate
Tap the Language button inside any article and choose your language with (Auto) — the entire article is translated in place by Google Translate, just like Chrome’s built-in translator. Text, captions, and hatnotes all update without leaving Wikipedia. A progress indicator appears while translation loads.
Translated table of contents
The Contents panel updates with translated section titles in real time. As Google Translate works through the article, translated headings are captured and pushed to the ToC — the contents always match what you’re reading, even for long articles with dozens of sections.
Proper typesetting
Text is fully justified and hyphenated using the target language’s own rules. Russian, German, French and others look like a real book, not a plain webpage. Wikipedia’s rendering engine sets English language attributes internally — this mod overrides them so the correct hyphenation dictionary is always applied.
Persistent setting
Set your preferred language once in Settings → Auto translate. From that point on, every article opens already translated — no extra taps needed. The same setting is also reachable from the Language list inside any article; your language appears at the top marked (Auto).
Sticky translation
Follow an internal link to another article and translation continues automatically — no need to tap (Auto) again. Navigate through dozens of related articles without ever leaving your language. The setting stays active until you explicitly turn it off.
One-tap disable
A None option in Settings → Auto translate clears the translation setting instantly. Handy when you want to switch back to reading in the original language or change to a different target language.
Gboard keyboard auto-switch
When searching inside Wikipedia, Gboard automatically switches to the keyboard layout of the article language. Set auto-translate to Russian — the keyboard switches to Russian. Change to German — the keyboard follows. No manual switching needed.
Prerequisites: Gboard installed and set as default keyboard · target language added in Gboard → Languages · enable “Use the language of the app” in Gboard → Preferences.
Translation cache
Translated articles are cached locally for 30 days. Reopen the same article and it appears instantly — no network request needed. Cache is keyed by article revision, so you get a fresh translation whenever Wikipedia updates the content. Cache size and a clear button are available in Settings.
